About

exhibition spaces fortyfivedownstairs occupies a 19th century rag trade building, which more than twenty years ago, became one of the first commercial contemporary art galleries in Flinders Lane. Artists and audiences have always found the main gallery an inspiring space, approximately 18 metres long, with 4 ¼ metre high pressed metal ceiling, and a beautiful arched window admitting just the right amount of soft, southern light. The smaller exhibition space has approximately 18 metres of hanging space and high quality gallery lighting. The galleries can be hired separately, or as a whole. Occasionally the space is used for low key corporate functions, lunches, music recitals, etc. Proposals to rent the space can be made to info@fortyfivedownstairs.com theatre space In 2007, fortyfivedownstairs extended its use of the building to a lower level of the building, which is used almost exclusively for theatre, music and dance performance. The space is approximately 18 by 14 metres, and with its wall of dramatic arched windows, nearly 5 metre high ceiling, and weathered floor, has great flexibility and versatility. It also has disabled access. Depending on the configuration of each production, the space can accommodate audiences of any size up to 150. It is also an ideal and characterful venue for fashion parades, cocktail parties and other corporate events.
