With Jeremy Sims at its helm, Porkchop Productions returns to Belvoir St. Theatre in what is a fast paced and dynamic production of one of the greatest plays ever written, Hamlet.
Jeremy Sims plays the title role of Hamlet – a natural progression after his recently hailed performances as Cyrano De Bergerac and Flamineo in the White Devil for the STC. There is no doubt that this consummate stage actor is more than ready to tackle the complexities of this most famous of roles.
Featuring an amazing array of talent, Porkchop has assembled some of the countries most respected stage and film actors – joining Jeremy are Sacha Horler (as Ophelia), John Noble, Jerome Ehlers and Deborah Kennedy.
This short (just over two hours) and brilliant contemporary adaptation by Jeremy Sims is set in the bowels of a disintegrating Europe – think Kosovo, Sarajevo, Belfast or Chechyna – where modern European cities have become tribal battlegrounds with Elsinore at the heart of this chilling nightmare.
Andrew Raymond’s set and costumes will give the production a thoroughly contemporary feel – somewhere between Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Cabaret Balkan.
Couple this with music by SkunkhourÂ’s Aya Larkin (who will be singing the role of the player King) and Paul Searle, mixed live and you have the makings of a stunning night in the theatre!
