When they get down on their knees, it is not to pray...
Ujamaa, the Swahili word for "brotherhood" is the evocative name for this new production company formed specifically to bring together two highly experienced actors, Martin Mhando and David Moody, and director and designer, Serge Tampalini, in a collaborative work at the Blue Room.
WITNESS is an exploration of concepts of justice, reconciliation and communication through a process of improvisation and group devising. The project explores an encounter from the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission where a white interpreter must record and tell the story of a black activist and victim of torture.
WITNESS is a humorous, moving and confronting piece of theatre that resonates across borders and cultures and speaks to an important phenomenon of our time; reparation and reconciliation after violence.
