The Savoy Opera Company is putting on two of Gilbert and Sullivan's most famous operettas back to back coming to you in early May. You will not have a better deal this season!
Josephine is the daughter of Captain Corcoran, one of the finest captains in the British fleet. She has fallen in love with a common sailor on board the ship, Ralph Rackstraw, who has also fallen for Josephine. However, class pride stands in the way of their following their natural inclinations. Indeed, Josephine's father has arranged a marriage with Sir Joseph, first lord of the admiralities - a class above even the Corcoran's themselves. This is the story of HMS Pinafore or The Lass who loved a sailor.
Trial by Jury follows the story of Edwin, sued by Angelina for breach of promise of marriage. Angelina seeks substantial damages for Edwin's trickery, while Edwin tries to weasel his way out of the situation, having fallen for one of their bridesmaids. The jury, having been swayed by Angelina's beauty are heavily biased against Edwin. His only hope: A dubiously elected judge with a record for helping thieves and burglars.
Matinee on 17th May at 2pm.
